Mutual Gaze

The "Mutual Gaze" project has been operating at Kelim since 2017 in collaboration with performers with visual impairments and blindness. The project was initiated by choreographer Shiri Teicher and since 2021 has been led by choreographer Tamar Meizlish (graduate of the two-year Choreography Program at Kelim). Over the years, the project has been supported by the Ministry of Culture and has operated in long-term collaboration with Mereshl Tel Aviv. The "Mutual Gaze" project operates under the umbrella of "Action Incubator," which centralizes projects with people of diverse abilities at Kelim. "Action Incubator" expands and enriches the boundaries of social and artistic discourse alike, enabling a mutually beneficial influence: dance creators act as leaders in the social environment in which they operate through artistic and creative tools, while people living with disabilities impact the artistic field, taking an active part through their bodies and presence in the creation of new aesthetic languages, and allowing a new and diverse perspective on concepts such as center and margin, visible and invisible.

Currently, Tamar Meizlish is leading a new project, a duet created in collaboration and performed by Or Saadi (professional dancer) and Savion David (performer with visual impairment). The work is supported by the Culture and Arts Council of Mifal HaPais, the Ministry of Culture, and Mereshl Tel Aviv. The piece premiered in a pre-show as part of the "Na Laga’at" Festival and during "Kleguf" events at Kelim in December 2024, and will premiere officially at the "Kelim Festival" in March 2025. This is Tamar’s second work within the "Mutual Gaze" project. Her first work, "Shepherds," premiered in 2022 and for the first time integrated professional performers alongside non-professional performers, with and without visual impairments. The performers in "Shepherds" included: Einat Gantz, Tal Hefner, Haim Reuveni, Nitza Foichtunger, Ora Feiner, Vered Popel, Yaron Ben Yaakov, Ariella Tucholov, Hadas Pe’er, Ruth Schechter, Shira Milbaur, Meidad Raz; original music: Noam Halper; costume design: Avia Bash; assistants: Einat Gantz, Tal Hefner.
