Second Language

The "Second Language" project has been operating at Kelim since 2024, led by choreographer Chai Cohen and producer Michal Goldfield-Shadot. The first work presented within the project is "Solo," in collaboration with an ensemble of women with and without disabilities, with visible and non-visible impairments. The piece offers a reflection on the connection between movement mechanisms and social structures in the realms of femininity, disability, gender, and the intersection of identities. The "Second Language" project is based on the belief in the social and artistic power of body-based performances to influence attitudes toward others, create broad and effective conscious change, reduce stigmas, and remove social barriers.

The "Second Language" project operates under the umbrella of "Action Incubator," which centralizes projects with people of diverse abilities at Kelim. "Action Incubator" expands and enriches the boundaries of social and artistic discourse alike, enabling a mutually beneficial influence: dance creators act as leaders in the social environment in which they operate through artistic and creative tools, while people living with disabilities impact the artistic field, taking an active part through their bodies and presence in the creation of new aesthetic languages, and allowing a new and diverse perspective on concepts such as center and margin, visible and invisible.
